Steve McGarvie Music
Welcome to the site! This is the place to find details of all of Steve's projects, including community choirs, private instrumental teaching and musical arrangements for a range of ensembles.
The Community Choirs perform mainly bespoke arrangements and specialise in rock, pop, soul and jazz music, both a cappella and with backing tracks. To see a list of songs already performed, click here.
Do I need to audition to join?
No you don't! The choirs are all-inclusive and offer a friendly welcome to anyone who wants to give singing in a choir a go. The choirs have a wide range of ages, abilities and experiences (some with none at all!) and all levels are catered for.
Do I have to pay a membership fee? Are there other costs to consider?
No there isn't! All members pay £5 cash (or £5.25 via contactless card/app) per session and there is no membership fee, you just pay and sing. *Please note, fees are rising to £7 cash/£7.25 contactless from 1st February 2023, our first price rise in over six years, due to increasing costs.* As all the music is written specifically for the groups you don't even need to pay for your own copy of the sheet music. Our 'uniform' when performing is flexible so there is no need to buy a specific item; the members bring their own style to the concerts.
Great! Is there a choir near me?
We currently have two established choirs who are always looking for new members. Sound Waves Community Choir is based in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham. For more information click here. Our Darlington based group is Vocal Soul Community Choir. For more on Vocal Soul click here.
So how do I join?
You can contact Steve by completing the form below. Alternatively can can just turn up to a session, however it is advised you contact Steve first to ensure the choir is not on holiday. For details of rehearsal venues and times please go to the Sound Waves and/or Vocal Soul pages.
